Training Theory Conclusion

  • July 23, 2024

We’ve gone over a lot of material in our five part training theory series. I hope you enjoyed reading through some of my thoughts as much as I enjoyed putting them to paper. More importantly, I hope you found them helpful. This is a mentality more than a training prescription and changing the way we think takes time. So here are a few tips to put this into practice.

Tip one: Don’t try to implement them all at once. Pick the one that resonates the most and test it out for a month.

Tip two: Simplify! I've condensed each blog post to one key point that should be easier to remember or write on a Post-it note.

   1.  You don’t know your own capacity and so don’t plan to fail. Set yourself up for success!

   2.  Standards give a safe and effective framework for your training. Make meeting the standard your first goal before adding      weight and intensity

   3.  Lifting “heavy” is for everyone. Add weight in small increments over weeks not days.

   4.  Have fun with your training! High skill training prepares you for high demand life.

   5.  Don’t neglect rest and acknowledge weaknesses and blind spots.

Tip three: Ask for help or pull in a friend to do it with you. You will double your chances of success!

As with all theories, I will continue to test and refine. Know that I am already joining you on this fitness and health journey and half the fun is finding new ways to make ourselves better, stronger, more efficient, and more resilient. Thanks for joining me! I look forward to returning to this next year to see how my views have changed and evolved. If you have any questions about any of these topics, reach out! I would love to chat.
